just wanna share my journey up the peak of Mt Kota Kinabalu (29/4/08 - 30/4/08)
let's take one shot before the 8.7km climb.
our ultimate target's just right in the background...
before climb, at the foot of the mountain, the 8 ambitious trekkers...
and the journey begins...
first stop, laban rata resthouse which is 6km away...
we were exhilarated when we saw the first 0.5km mark... (1935m above sea level)
we carried on...
yeah, 1km! 5 more km to laban rata resthouse...
alright, 1.5km now...
putting on false smiles to disguise our weariness...
little surprises along the way, a pitcher plant!
1/3 journey covered...
little squirrels teasing trekkers at rest huts...
2.5km mark...
ouch, dun touch it...
yeah!!! we're half way there!!!
another 0.5km covered...
oh yah, here's our mountain guide cum porter, ben.
he's superb. with 28kg load, he's even faster than us...
hang in there, already 2/3 the journey...
huirei and myself decided to speed up...
rocky and muddy road ahead...
ooooh, the trees look eerie...
4.5km...
alright, just 1 more km to go!!!
it was really scenic along the way...
last 0.5km to laban rata base, yeah!!!
at last, huirei and myself reached laban rata resthouse,
20min ahead of the rest...
it was warm and cosy inside the rest house
food!!! was starving like hell.
oh well, they served presentable meals.
this is where we'll spend our night before
the hike to the peak early next morning...
and it was freezing cold, esp after a shower...
the next day at 2am, getting ready for the climb to Low's Peak...
even colder in the morning, and worse up on the peak
i didn't take any photos along the way, coz it was pitch dark.
i nearly gave up on the last 200m, when i realised that
dawn was breaking. it was 5.30am...
at last, at 5.50am, i reached the peak.
chingyuh and huirei were already up there...
yeah! at 4095.2m, Low's Peak
i really couldn't describe the
sense of achievement within me...
wait wait wait, let me put on my beanie first...
our guide went up to verify that we've reached the peak...
oooh, what a sight...
isn't our guide cool?
raymond and shaoqiang also made it to the peak,
and we all decided to take a photo at South Peak...
this is what we used to pull ourself up...
the famous South Peak, often the subject
for photographers. also often mistaken
as the peak of Mt KK...
time to go down before the mist sets in...
wow, we're above clouds...
really have to be very cautious when we descend...
errie looking trees again...
looks like sherine's recovered...
although only 5 of us made it to the peak, but the climb really was a memorable
experience for all of us. conclusion, school friends are the best...
